GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY, was such a special day. The performances were wonderful, and everyone enjoyed the visit to the classrooms. Enjoy the pictures!

THE BOOK FAIR will be Monday, December 4-Friday December 8
This is a wonderful place to buy books and gifts for Christmas and Hanukkah plus support our school library!

WINTER PROGRAM, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 6:30PM  This is always a great tradition at Roycemore.  The first-fourth graders participate with the Middle and Upper Schoolers in a wonderful show of singing and tumbling ending with a long-standing tradition of "Sleigh Ride".  This year the RFA is recreating a tradition from long ago.  They are offering a spaghetti dinner before the show!

Clothes for Winter Program
Please have the children in Grades 1-4 wear the same black slacks or skirts and white tops that they wore for Grandparents Day.  For the tumbling students in Grades 3 & 4, please wear the same, but know that the girls will wear a white leotard, which Mrs. Wunder will provide, under their clothes for when they are doing cart wheels etc.

It's that time of year again! In anticipation of possible weather closures this winter, we will be testing our emergency alert system on Tuesday, November 14th at approximately 11am. Messages will be marked as THIS IS ONLY A TEST.

The ParentsWeb alert system allows us to send out messages via text, email and voice. In the event of a school closure or other important information, we will use the family contact information in ParentsWeb for this purpose.

Please take a few minutes to log into your ParentsWeb account and make sure your phone, cell, email and emergency contact information is correct.

For school closures or schedule changes due to weather, texts, emails and voice calls will be used to notify families and faculty/staff, as well as posts on the school website, Facebook and Twitter, and on the Emergency Closing Center website at emergencyclosingcenter.com.

If you have any questions about how to update your information in ParentsWeb, please contact Systems Coordinator Heather Mehta at hmehta@roycemoreschool.org or 847-866-6055.

THE ISACS CONFERENCE: On Friday, during our first snow of the year, Roycemore teachers attended the ISACS Annual Conference, along with independent school teachers from around the Midwest. The theme of this year's conference was "Blazing a Trail to Learning," and we are so excited to bring back the great ideas we learned to our classrooms!

There will be a performance by all the Lower School children, including our youngest ones, and then a visit to their classrooms for fun activities. UPPER SCHOOL MUSICAL, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH & 18TH
Do you hear the people sing?  Roycemore's Upper School will be performing a Broadway favorite, Les Miserables, on Friday, November 17th and Saturday, November 18th.  It a story about redemption, love, and the fight for freedom.  The show begins at 7:00 P.M. in the MPR and admission is free.  We hope to see you there!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN IS AMAZING, and has a few openings. Our preschool is so different than most play-based programs.  The children think they are playing, but they are truly learning in an enriched environment. We have both a five-day and a three-day option. If you know someone who wants an incredible experience for their child, have them contact Amanda Avery Director of Admissions aavery@roycemoreschool.org or me at morzoff@roycemoreschool.org for a tour and a chance to see this really incredible program in progress.

  1. Congratulations to Mrs. Vanchieri! The First Grade had a surprise shower for her!

   2.  The Third Graders are doing an integrated unit on the Mayan culture.  As part of their unit, they studied the effects of erosion on the Mayan pyramids.

We were so delighted to see you all at CONFERENCESIt is a scheduled time when we can meet and work together to make sure your children will become the best they can be, but do know that if you ever have a concern or question or just want to talk we are always available.  That is one of the things that makes our school different.  We are all working together in a partnership for
your children.

Don't forget to set your clocks back on hour, if you have not done this already.  Can you believe we are back on Central Standard time?  Can winter be far behind?  Let me take this opportunity to remind you that we go out to recess everyday.  Please make sure your children have jackets, hats, gloves, snowpants, and boots so they are prepared for any weather.

LEADER IN ME: it is so wonderful to watch our children really work to be leaders. They have embraced The Seven Habits and use them to help them become better. At recess when there is a disagreement, they use "Think Win Win" to negotiate the problem so they all can "win" As part of the program our 4th graders lead our Monday Morning Meeting each week. It is amazing how seriously they take this responsibility.

ISACS CONFERENCE, November 10 . Roycemore is so lucky to belong to ISACS, the Independent School Association for the Central States. They are our accrediting board, and they provide excellent professional development for our teachers. This year the ISACS conference is in Chicago, and all of our teachers will be attending it. Therefore there will be NO SCHOOL on Friday November 10, so they can all attend and learn wonderful new research, strategies, and information to bring back to your children. EDP will NOT be available.

Put GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY, NOVEMBER 21, on your calendar. It is such a special day. There will be a performance by all the Lower School children, including our youngest ones, and then a visit to their classrooms for fun activities.

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.

  1. At Roycemore, we believe kids need to move to learn. Based on this belief, we offer physical education every day starting in Kindergarten.  We also have long recesses. This is so important to learning.

    2.  Our art program is amazing.  Mrs. O'Donnell is always teaching an art skill to our children so they are prepared when they go into the rigorous art of Middle School.  Plus she works with the teachers to enhance what the children are learning.  The Third Graders are studying the Mayan culture, so they are making mosaic Mayan masks in art.

 3.  Our First and Second Graders are mixed together for math and reading so everyone is appropriately challenged and not bored.
