Winter Break starts at 3:15PM on Friday, December 22. EDP will go to its usual 6:00PM time.  Have a wonderful break everyone, Happy Holidays and a Happy and Healthy New Year!  School will resume on Monday January 8.  Look for the next Lower School News on Sunday, January 7!

AFTER-SCHOOL ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Registration for the Winter Session of the After-School Enrichment Activities is now open.  You have received a separate email, please look at all the attachments for information.  Cross Country Team is over for the year.  Board Games will replace it on Wednesday.  We have also added a cooking and baking class called Little Chefs to Thursday.

STAFF PARTYOn Tuesday, December 19 the Roycemore faculty and staff will be celebrating the holidays with a party in the library. Therefore, we ask that all children after 4:00PM be picked up downstairs by the EDP rooms. If you are not at Tae Kwon-do at exactly 4:00, your children will be brought downstairs to EDP.  Please enter through the garage. After 4:00 there will be no children on the main level. Thank you!!  This is also true for Sprout!  Please enter through the garage and walk upstairs to the art room to get your children.

The Extended Day Rooms will be monitored by  parent volunteers.  Therefore everyone picking up children must be on the Parent Pick-up List on RenWeb, and will be asked to show ID.

Wasn't WINTER PROGRAM Amazing?  This is always a great tradition at Roycemore.  The first-fourth graders participate with the Middle and Upper Schoolers in a wonderful show of singing and tumbling ending with a long-standing tradition of "Sleigh Ride". Look for lots of pictures all over the blog. The dinner was delicious, thank you RFA!! Also a huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Herrick and Mrs. Wunder for putting on a spectacular show. It was truly one of the best!

WINTER CLOTHES REMINDER!
With the cold weather upon us, please make sure your children have the proper clothes for recess!  They need jackets, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots!! Scarves are optional, but really felt good this past week when the temperature dropped! We go out every day that the temperature is above 20 degrees and windchill in double digits.  Snow does not deter us; in fact we love it!!

Speaking of snow, if you have coaster type sleds that you do not want any more, please bring them to my office.  There is a wonderful small hill in the park that is perfect for safe sledding.

Sunday, December 3, 2017

This coming week will be very busy around Roycemore.

THE BOOK FAIR will be Monday, December 4-Friday December 8
This is a wonderful place to buy books and gifts for Christmas and Hanukkah plus support our school library! Parents, please visit our book fair this week to shop for your children!  If you are able, you may want to shop for your child's classroom as well.  Teachers are creating wish-lists.  Look for them at the book fair.

HOUR OF CODE WEEK December 4-8
December 4-10 is Hour of Code week, a global movement to promote computer coding to students of all ages. This year, we are going BEYOND an hour of code because we want our students to learn about applying coding skills to other areas of their lives! Throughout the week, coding activities will be available as part of Roycemore's Book Fair. We hope you all will come.

On Friday, December 8, all students in grades 4-8 will visit Scientific Games to participate in some hands-on activities and to see real-life coding in action. The book fair activities and the field trip will replace the annual Hour of Code Family Celebration that Roycemore has done in the past.

ADMISSIONS' MORNING TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5   8:30-10:00AM
If you know of someone who would like to see our incredible school in progress, invite them to contact Amanda Avery, Director of Admissions at aavery@roycemoreschool.org if they would like to come. Of course drop-ins are always welcome.

WINTER PROGRAM, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 6:30PM  This is always a great tradition at Roycemore.  The first-fourth graders participate with the Middle and Upper Schoolers in a wonderful show of singing and tumbling ending with a long-standing tradition of "Sleigh Ride".  This year the RFA is recreating a tradition from long ago.  They are offering a spaghetti dinner before the show!

Clothes for Winter Program
Please have the children in Grades 1-4 wear the same black slacks or skirts and white tops that they wore for Grandparents Day.  For the tumbling students in Grades 3 & 4, please wear the same, but know that the girls will wear a white leotard, which Mrs. Wunder will provide, under their clothes for when they are doing cart wheels etc.

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.

1. Speaking in front of others is a very important skill to learn.  Our children start presenting at a very young age. Teachers are always creating opportunities for them to speak in front of their class, or in front of the whole Lower School.

    2. The Pre-Kindergarten had a very special mystery reader this week! Mrs. Finley-Odell

3. When a child is ready to read, she is allowed to read and be excited about it.  Here is a Pre-Kindergarten child who only wanted to read and she is!
5.  It is so nice to do organic cross divisional activities.  Middle School girls use their personal time to play at recess with the early childhood kids, so sweet!!

6.  Project Based, progressive education is what Roycemore is all about. The 2nd Grade has learned about simple machines by creating their own complex machines using the simple ones they learned about.
