Wasn't the Auction wonderful? It was truly one of the best I have been to.  Thank you to the RFA and all of the parents who worked so tirelessly to create such a fabulous night.Thank you to everyone who attended and gave so generously. This allows so many students to attend Roycemore, through our Sliding Scale tuition program, who otherwise couldn't!

THE LOWER SCHOOL MUSICAL IS Seussical the MusicalWednesday May 2nd  at 6:30.
The Fourth Graders are the stars, the Third Graders have smaller parts, and the First and Second Graders are the Chorus. The pictures are from rehearsal.  Can't wait to see the final performance!

FOURTH GRADERS HEADING TO SPRINGFIELD THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.  As a culmination experience of their study of Illinois history, the Fourth Graders will head to  Springfield to see the Lincoln Museum, and his home, our State Capital, and New Salem, where Lincoln lived as a young man.  There will be lots of learning and lots of fun!

There are still spaces for ROYCEMORE SCHOOL'S  EXCELLENT SUMMER PROGRAMS, INSPIRATION FACTORY (IF)  AND CAMP GRIFFIN INFORMATION IS ON OUR WEBSITE!.  PLEASE LOOK FOR IT.    https://www.roycemoreschool.org/summer

Please put this fun night on your calendar!
LOWER SCHOOL SLEEP UNDER, THURSDAY, MAY 10 5:30-7:00. You should have received an evite from the RFA.  This will be a wonderful time for you to enjoy each other's company while your children are being entertained by watching a movie! What a great time for everyone!

A Note from the Art Room
When you are in the building dropping off or picking up your children, or at the Lower School Musical, you may take their clay looms (photo below) down off the board in the Lower School Hallway and bring them home. I think by doing it in this fashion, we will have a higher success rate of the looms making it home safely. Please leave the “T” pins in the board. It would be ideal if you take your students’ clay looms home by next Friday, May 4. Also, these are indoor decorations and are not weather-safe.

YEA, Young Evanston Artists, Saturday May 19, in Raymond Park 10:00AM-3:00PM Put this on your calendar. Roycemore always has one of the best booths. All Kindergarten students will have 1 piece in the show and all students grades 1-4 will have 2 pieces in the show. Also, new this year there will be more arts and crafts activities for the children to do at the festival. There will be class meet-up times in the afternoon (info to come), but you are welcome to visit at any time during the show hours.

RACE AGAINST HATE
Roycemore will be participating in the YWCA's Race Against Hate, Sunday, June 17, 2018. There are four different race options to choose from: a timed 5K and 10k, a 5K walk, and a Youth/Family 1 Mile. PICTURES THIS WEEK:
  1. The Junior Kindergarten was a busy place this week. Seen here, they made signs for the STAND AGAINST RACISM which took place on Friday, plus they did a science experiment about clouds.

  2.  The STAND AGAINST RACISM was truly a wonderful experience for our students, both in participation and in the experiential learning it provided.  Some of our student signs really showed that they understood why we were all standing on Ridge with the rest of Evanston. Everyone participated from the Upper School down to our youngest students.

PICTURES THIS WEEK:
  1.  Math should not just be taught with paper and pencil.  It needs to be hands-on so the concepts become more easily understood.  Here are first and second graders creating groups of tens while others are playing a bingo game to show their understanding of money.

2. The Kindergarten paired up with the Pre-Kindergarten to celebrate Earth Day.  The older children worked with the younger ones to help them all understand how to help our Earth. See more pictures below.

  3.  One Book Read Together was a huge success and so much fun.  Everyone who came truly enjoyed it as they participated in a book discussion and a scavenger hunt.

PICTURES THIS WEEK:

  1. Because of our excellent faculty and differentiated curriculum, we are solicited by many universities to have their student teachers placed here.  Today the Fourth Grade was saying good-bye to Mary Beth Corbett who has been with us all year.  She did a practicum in the first grade and student taught in fourth.  It was a very bittersweet parting for everyone.

  2.  The third graders continued their mystery science unit of trying to discover what five white powders could be.  Today they used heat!

  3. The Kindergarten children had a STEM challenge! Can you create a ramp that will make a race car go the farthest distance?
Materials- card stock, unifix cubes and tape
